Hawthorn Woods mayor elected to serve as president of Lake County Municipal League
Continuing to answer the call to public service, Mayor Joseph Mancino of the Village Hawthorn Woods has been elected to serve as the President of the Lake County Municipal League. Mancino began serving his term on July 17, 2014. Prior to being elected, Mancino served as Director on the board of the Lake County Municipal League (LCML) for the past 4 years, including one of those years as Secretary. The League’s membership is comprised of 38 Lake County municipal government organizations including Mayors, Board Members and Municipal Administrators. The League serves as a vehicle for members to collaborate on issues and legislation and take joint-action on matters affecting Lake County municipalities.
Mayor Mancino has been proudly serving the Hawthorn Woods community since being elected in 2009. Mancino looks to bring his government and private sector experience to specifically address the Leagues goals. “I am honored to volunteer in service to the Lake County Municipal League. With our newly elected board and Executive Director now in place, I anticipate a busy and productive year working on legislative issues, cooperative purchasing programs, and tax saving initiatives that will benefit all Lake County municipalities,” said Mayor Mancino. In recent years economic uncertainties have placed pressure on local government to deliver better services with less resources. Municipal council of governments such as the LCML are growing resources for municipalities to exchange ideas and formulate sustainable strategies to address mounting challenges. Citing those unique challenges Mancino stated “Lake County Municipalities are doing things right despite the economic challenges around us. We need to unite and strengthen our local municipal authority to ensure continued good stewardship of our taxes and services.”
Joseph Mancino continues to be active in various forms of government. In addition to his responsibilities as the Mayor of the Village of Hawthorn Woods and President of the Lake County Municipal League, he also serves as a member on the Finance Committee for the Illinois Route 53/120 Expansion Project and several other state and national organizations.
